Kenneth Winarick’s Summary of the Conference: This symposium is the twelfth in a series that began in 1998.The original aim was to bring together analysts with different theoretical orientations and points of view to dialogue on subjects of interest and importance. At the time it was something of a radical venue, decidedly different from what was typically taking place in the analytic community, where analytic meetings were insular, like minded talking to like minded, while setting up straw men to disparage and belittle other points of view. Since then there a been a decided shift as divergent points of view are now represented at most analytic meetings, and new mutual respect has started to emerge along with an integration of theory and practice, This symposium follows that tradition. The panelists address the topics from a Lacanian, Self Psychology, Freudian, Kleinian, Interpersonal and Evolutionary point of view,. This year we have made an effort to bring psychoanalysis out of the consulting room and into the world, to address the pressing economic, social and moral problems we face. Many of the papers address the psychopathology of contemporary political and financial figures while others bring psychoanalytic perspectives to the understanding of corporate and financial culture. I am particularly pleased that we have several presenters from the financial community, who have insight and understanding into a world most of us only know from the couch. The panel on gullibility on Sunday promises a unique perspective, looking at what makes someone predisposed to blindly trust a financial predator. I look forward to the presentations and I am sure you will find them informative and meaningful.
